International Information Nobel Centre:

The history of establishment and formation, and development prospects

In the latest years, about the Nobel Prizes do not mention only a lazy one. The phrase alike “Now, plough on – hope to get the Nobel Prize? Now, now!” comes popular not only in academic-educated surroundings but also among the people distant enough from a science. It comes fashionable to put this into the mouth of cinematic-literary characters.

Only a few remembers that merely half a century ago such a frivolous mention about this prize can turn back with the serious troubles: it was dangerous to talk about Nobel Dynasty and the Nobel Prizes. About domestic laureates, they tried not to mention once more to place no emphasis on this – though world-recognized – but reactionary decoration.

However, times have changed, and Nobel topic regards now as a good form. Recently hundreds articles and tens monographs have been published about Alfred Nobel, Nobel Dynasty and their activity, Nobel Prize Laureates. In the press, the dispute does not stop that how and what for the Nobel Prizes are awarded, whether fairly candidates are selected, why again our fellow-countrymen are set aside and all the prizes have passed to Americans, what a sum of the prizes in money terms, how…, why…, etc. In addition, this theme is of highly fascinating but separate talk.

So, who were these people that breach in a wall of concealment of true information about the Nobel Prizes and about all that connected with them? They are scientists-enthusiasts, long-lived painstaking efforts of which lift gradually the veil of ignorance and uninformed state.

One of them, started with semi-childish passion of forbidden ground, made the Nobel theme the general one of his life. At the end of the 1960s, Slava Tyutyunnik, the Tambov schoolboy, came afterwards as the known scientist, the author of more than 650 publications, the honored with numerous ranks and regalia, had been interested in the suspect (from the official viewpoint) topic – the Nobel Prize and its Laureates. Since the information on the topic in USSR was lacking, he, having decided to know more about one of the scientist awarded with the Nobel Prize, wrote the letter in Austria. In reply to it he received from Graz the material about F.Pregl, Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, that became the first documents of Scientific Nobel Library to be. Gradually, during 35 years, it has been forming a huge by volume and importance fund from separate editions received and obtained from different countries. A private unique collection underlay the library and archive, having no analogue in modern practice and becoming the common property of the people. An interest in the Nobel topic does insensibly unite round V.Tyutyunnik more and more people, different by education, by profession, by residence, keen on various aspects of nobelistics. Contacts of these interested people did initially occur spontaneously. Later, the idea was put forward to unite concerned people in an organization where associates could exchange the information.

In April 1989 in Tambov, International Information Nobel Centre (IINC) was established to study life and activity of Nobel Dynasty, in particular A.Nobel the prize founder, Nobel Prize Laureates, the history of Nobel Prize Award. First the idea of appearance of such an organization with so pretentious name looks wild: why on earth in Russian remote – in provincial Tambov bearing no relation nor to Sweden, nor to Nobel Dynasty, even more so nor to the Nobel Prize – did like structure found, and what should it do?

In April 1989 in Tambov, International Information Nobel Centre (IINC) was established to study life and activity of Nobel Dynasty, in particular A.Nobel the prize founder, Nobel Prize Laureates, the history of Nobel Prize Award. First the idea of appearance of such an organization with so pretentious name looks wild: why on earth in Russian remote – in provincial Tambov bearing no relation nor to Sweden, nor to Nobel Dynasty, even more so nor to the Nobel Prize – did like structure found, and what should it do?

The IINC initially allocates on Library department of Tambov State Institute of Culture. Socio-economic conditions during the end of the 1980s – the beginning of the 1990s stipulate modern for those days economic-contractual work manner.

The rough real of those times turns out to be so that in 1999 the IINC, hardly had time to hurriedly pack the unique documents and displays, was in straight sense thrown into the street. Today the IINC allocates in apartments of Moscow State University of Culture and Arts to become the first haven.

Initially the IINC structure looks like this:
– The museum of A.Nobel and Nobel Prize Laureates;
– Nobel Library;
– International Nobel Meeting-Conferences of Nobel Prize Laureates and Nobelists;
– International base data “Nobelists”;
– International base data “A.Nobel and Nobel Prizes. Nobel Prize Laureates”;
– International money fund by informatics, science of science, history of science and culture.

Moreover, the first that was done is that the IINC collects explorer-enthusiasts on its first forum (international meeting-conference of Nobel Prize Laureates and Nobelists) which was lead in Tambov 15-16 April, 1989. Later on, it becomes a good tradition to collect like-minded persons to exchange their finds on Nobel topic. However, this was later on…

All but ten years takes that this beginning has obtained official recognition. Nobelistics is a new scientific direction, combining the investigations connected with the life and activity of A.Nobel and his Dynasty, Nobel Firms, Nobel Foundation and Committees, Nobel Prize Laureates with their publications and the literature about them, that gets official status in 1998, after taking by V.M.Tyutyunnik senior doctoral degree. In his thesis, the author had developed methodological fundamentals, elaborated basic notions, formulated fundamental laws, settled theoretical principals and main algorithms in technology of conducting the investigations in the field of Nobelistics.

Each following conference (1991, 1993, 1995, 1998, 1999) was marked by some important event: opening the bust of A.Nobel (shaped by Tambov sculptor K.Y.Malopheev), the Nobel Scientific Library, the Museum of A.Nobel and Nobel Prize Laureates, presenting the book of H.B.Balyutavichute and V.M.Tyutyunnik “Nobel Prize Winners in Literature, 1901-1990” and data bank “Nobelists”, constituent issue of “IINC Vestnik”. In the frames of these conferences, international symposium dedicated to the ninth anniversary of chromatography, and international conference “Computer Science and Scientometrics” were also held.

In May 2002 in Tambov happens the International Congress (VII International Meeting-Conference) of Nobel Prize Laureates and Nobelists “Science, Engineering, Society, and Nobel Movement in a Third Thousand Years” dedicated to the hundredth anniversary of Nobel Prize, founders of which are International Information Nobel Centre (Tambov), Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, G.R.Derzhavin Tambov State University. First, the Memorable Medal and IINC Diploma for the outstanding services in the field of Nobelistics were presented. The presentation of three unique issues happens: IINC proceedings, book of N.Ippolitova “Nobel Dynasty”, and anthology of International Nobel Movement “Nobelistics”. To the participant attention the developing web-site of IINC was offered, on which were collected more than 20 data bases over the thirty-year period.

In the present time IINC is an organization with developing structure, having the branches in Moscow, St.Petersburg, Baku, Alma-Ata, Vienna, Hamburg, and…

Today nobody has a doubt that Nobel Prizes are the phenomenon of world’s culture, presenting invaluable material for investigations, developing ideas, their using in science, engineering, thinking, and society.

The history of International Nobel Movement (Nobelistics) has not been written yet, so far every event is one of its pages. And, we are in pleasant knowing that these pages are being written in Tambov earth.
